Birmingham has been selected by the IAAF to host the 2018 World Indoor Athletics Championships, with Portland being selected for 2016. The IAAF opted to appoint hosts for both editions after failing to split their 2016 bids. The event will be staged at the National Indoor Arena, which also hosted the 2003 edition. It is currently undergoing a £26 million refurbishment, which is due to finish in 2014.
