District wide leisure facility strategy, feasibility study to investigate the options for a new £26 million leisure centre in Dover and tendering of the long-term management contract.
Our Brief:
To provide a district wide needs assessment to determine the most suitable facility mix for a new leisure centre to accommodate future needs of district residents. Also, to manage the retendering of the Council’s leisure management contract.
Our Role:
We worked closely with the Council’s officers, Sport England and stakeholders to provide a clear facility strategy, options appraisals and feasibility studies for the new facility development. We then managed the procurement of a leisure operator for the new centre.
The Result:
Our work was integral to the development of the new £26 million Dover Leisure, which is planned for opening in early 2019. The new centre provides a significantly enhanced leisure experience for residents of the district, increasing participation, health and wellbeing. Our role on the appointment of a new leisure management contract successfully secured a significantly improved financial position for the Council, which was critical to the financing of the new centre. The project was also successful in securing capital investment from Sport England.
