Delivery of business planning and bid support for the successful development of the new National Performance Centre for Sport in Scotland, based at Heriot Watt University.
Our Brief:
To provide new facility business planning and bidding support for the development of a new Scottish National Performance Centre for Sport (now branded Oriam).
Our Role:
Our role was to work with the University’s team, other consultants and stakeholders to provide feasibility and business planning advice to test facility options and provide the basis of the business case, which was central to the successful bid for £25m investment from the Scottish Government and Sport England.
The Result:
The new £30 million project secured £25 million funding from the Scottish Government and £2.5 million from both the Heriot Watt University and the City of Edinburgh Council. Oriam is a world class training facility, featuring a full-sized indoor artificial turf football and rugby pitch with seating for 500 spectators, a full-sized grass pitch with seating for 500, an outdoor artificial turf pitch, goalkeeper training areas with floodlights, two grass rugby pitches, five grass football pitches, three outdoor tennis courts, and a nine-court sports hall. It also has a 100-station fitness suite, hydrotherapy, strength and conditioning and treatment areas, office accommodation for Sport Scotland and national governing bodies of sport, including the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Rugby Union.
