Companies could be dragged into “costly and damaging” litigation related to ambush marketing at next year’s Olympic Games because of an unprecedented amendment to the Olympics Act 2006 that is set to go before the UK parliament in the next two weeks.

The UK’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport produced a consultation paper earlier this year, ‘Regulations on Advertising Activity and Trading around London 2012,’ which has resulted in a draft law that now proposes to reverse the customary burden of proof in criminal cases.
