TF1, the French commercial broadcaster, attracted an average audience of 15.4 million on Sunday morning as France lost 8-7 to hosts New Zealand in the final of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in Auckland.

The audience for the match, which kicked off at 10am (CET), was equal to a huge viewing share of 82.3 per cent, according to figures from Médiamétrie.

TF1’s audience is the highest of the year for any French channel. The number of viewers peaked at 18 million at the end of the game.
