Newcastle Falcons to Install 3G Surface
Newcastle Falcons will have a 3G artificial playing surface in place at Kingston Park for the 2014-15 season.
Falcons are the second Premiership club to opt for a non-grass pitch, with Saracens having one at Allianz Park.
Director of rugby Dean Richards is confident the new pitch will aid his *plans to improve the team’s style of rugby* http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/27377829 after just 23 tries in 2013-14. “The new surface will undoubtedly produce a more free-flowing entertaining style,” he said.
Both the Rugby Football Union and Newcastle City Council have given permission for the development, which it is hoped will have a wider impact. “There is also the potential for community use of the pitch on and around match days which will benefit the sport in our region,” Richards said.
