The Sports Consultancy is proud to reveal its role in supporting the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in securing Singapore as the host city for the WTA Championships, from 2014 to 2018, marking a record-breaking agreement for the Championships. The deal further consolidates The Sports Consultancy’s position as a rapidly growing specialist in all aspects of the relationship between major events and host cities.
WTA Chairman and Chief Executive, Stacey Allaster announced the new five-year agreement last week in Singapore alongside representatives of Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Sports Council and promoter, World Sports Group.
The Sports Consultancy was appointed by the WTA in February 2012 to secure the best possible host and partner for the WTA Championships from 2014 onwards. During this 15-month period The Sports Consultancy has managed all aspects of the creation and management of the bid process. This commenced with a fresh look at the value and structure of the event and then included all aspects of the tender from the drafting and creation of bid materials through to the final evaluation and management of all Applicants and Candidates, leading commercial negotiations with shortlisted Candidates and final review and analysis of bids received.
Commenting on The Sports Consultancy’s role, Stacey Allaster said: “The WTA Championships is the crown-jewel finale of women’s tennis and we are hugely appreciative of The Sports Consultancy for their work in supporting us in what has been our first global tender for one of our major events. I believe the result speaks for itself.
Throughout the bid process The Sports Consultancy has demonstrated a highly professional approach, helping us identify the value using their deep experience of working with host cities on strategy, bidding and delivery of major events. They communicate this value through a process which can only be described as best in class and then applying their commercial and legal skills to a seamless conclusion.”
Angus Buchanan, Managing Director, The Sports Consultancy added: “We are really delighted to have played a key part in creating this great partnership between one of the world’s great sport cities and the most prestigious sports events. The WTA has found a true partner in Singapore and we are extremely proud of the work we have done over the last 15 months to make this happen.”
